The Wapiti, also known as the American elk is the second largest deer. Their coat is brown on their head and necks, and grey/beige on their body. The males have antlers which are shed annually in March and will grow new again in August. They are covered by “velvet” which peels away.

They feed from bushes and trees and like to go into the lakes and waters to take a drink.

In the Winter, Elk live in larger groups which will break up into smaller groups in the Summer.
