Impalas are of the small/medium sized antelope and are known for their gracefulness and their ability to leap and jump. If in danger they can leap 30 feet in length and 3 metres in height.

They have rufous colour coats which is lighter on the underflanks and white on the abdomen, a white rump with black vertical lines down either side. The males have long-lyre shaped horns.

They are very common in Africa, living in herds of upto 50. However, in the dry season the herds are larger. Mainly feeding on grasses, aswell as bushes and trees, they inhabit the open woodlands and savannahs.
