Baby Jaguars...

Two four month old male jaguar cubs, Coro and Cali, have been adopted by two fairly unusual groups of people! Coro has been adopted by A H Rogers and W G Bush, two firms of funeral directors in Eastleigh, Hampshire. Cali has been adopted by Plumb Centers, the plumbing supplies stores, whose headquarters are in North Yorkshire.

Coro and Cali were born on Boxing Day, 2000. Their mother is Bonita and their father is Pele. For some weeks they have been in the den with their mother but are now venturing out into their enclosure to explore.

Jaguars are declining in the wild because of habitat destruction and hunting. They are widespread in South America from Mexico to northern Argentina.

The jaguars’ father is a black or melanistic jaguar and Bonita is spotted. The last cub born at Marwell was a black one. He was called El Nino and has since moved on to another zoo.

Marwell is delighted that there are some cubs for visitors to see now that the zoo has reopened fully to visitors.
