The Common Raccoon is found in USA, Central America and Southern Canada in diverse habitats.

Unmistakable by their black face mask, raccoons are known for their mischievous behaviour, their curiosity and destructive nature.

They have highly dextrous front paws and will forage at night for food, such as fruit, nuts, small rodents and corn.

Raccoons are excellent climbers and will use the hollows in the trees as their dens, but are thought to prefer their ground burrows as their dens.

Other Raccoon species are:-

Tres Maria Raccoon (P. insularis) found in Mexico. Barbados Raccoon (P. gloveranni) - rare raccoons found in Barbados. Crab-eating Raccoon (P. cancrivorus) found in Costa Rica and North Argentina. Cozumel Island Racoon (P. pygmaeus) and Guadeloupe Raccoon (P. minor).
