The Bactrian Camel (camelus bactrianus) which comes from Asia is one of the six species in the Camelidae family, along with the Arabian Camel (Camelus dromedarius), Llama, Alpaca, Guanaco and Vicuna.

The Bactrian Camel has two humps and is adapted more to the rockier regions of Asia. They are more heavily built than the Arabian Camel and have longer coats. There are only a few hundred Bactrian Camels left.


Camels can run upto 20 miles per hour

They only start to perspire at a body temprature of 40.5 degrees celsius thus conserving body fluids

They can walk upto 25 miles a day

They chew their food about 40 – 50 times
