Zebra Born...

baby Chapman’s zebra born on Sunday, 8th April at Marwell has been named
Tamsin, after the actress Tamsin Outhwaite who plays Melanie in the TV series.
The baby was born to Freckles and the proud father is Kevin.
Marwell has three species of zebra – Grevy’s and Hartmann’s which are endangered
and Chapmans which are common. All three have different stripes – the Chapman’s
have a shadow stripe in between the darker stripe.
The stripes camouflage the animals and confuse predators.
Zebra are found in the open savannah area of Africa. They are social grazing
animals, living in herds.
Zebra foals suckle for up to seven months. Tamsin and her mum can be seen
on the North Section of Marwell Zoological Park, near Coati roundabout.
They are being kept separate from the main group so that the foal can bond
with her Mum and enjoy a peaceful life! |
